Turkey launches Claw-Castle military operation against Kurds in Iraq

The Turkish Armed Forces launched the military operation “Claw-Castle” against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, the press service of the Turkish Ministry of Defense reported.
“In order to neutralize the PKK and other terrorist elements, eliminate terrorist attacks against our people and security forces from northern Iraq, and ensure the security of our borders, in accordance with our right to self-defense arising from Art. 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, against terrorist targets in northern Iraq (in the so-called areas of Metina, Zap and Avasin-Basyan), Operation Claw-Castle was launched,— the message says.
According to the Ministry of Defense, special forces and the air force are involved in the operation. Turkish aircraft fired on shelters, bunkers, tunnels, ammunition depots and headquarters belonging to the PKK, the ministry specified.
The Turkish Defense Ministry noted that the purpose of this operation was “only terrorists.” (The Kurdistan Workers' Party has been designated a terrorist organization in Turkey and several other countries.)
Last April, the Turkish army conducted another military operation in northern Iraq against the PKK — with the participation of Turkish special forces. The military launched airstrikes on rebel positions, the Turkish Defense Ministry reported.
The PKK was founded in 1978. She advocates national self-determination for Kurds in Turkey. At the same time, the country's authorities consider the organization a terrorist organization. The activities of the PKK are deployed on the territory of two more states, where many Kurds live,— Syria and Iraq.
